Persian Cultural Center Inc. / Iranian Community School was founded in 1986. As a non-profit, non-political, educational entity we are dedicated to the language, culture, history, literature, music, and art of Iran for the young and adult residents of the greater Washington DC Metropolitan area.
Our organization is formed under Section 501(c)3 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code; non-profit- non-political organization.
It is our mission to make every family welcome, and part of our Persian School family. Our team, not only teaches language and celebrates Iranian culture but also, we strive to provide a community that stands for teamwork. We aim to create a positive and fulfilling environment in which we are respectful of individuals and all cultural backgrounds.
Our purpose is for the school to be a pillar for Iranian culture and to establish a sanctuary for Iranian-American students and parents.
It is our privilege to be part of a community where parents, teachers, and students care for each other and try to build positive relationships that support academic and social growth.
Iranian Community another Iranian oxymoron... Joking aside there is also a school, namely the Rustam School, in London. It was founded in early 80’s. It is the only enduring institution by the diaspora that I know in Britain. In the early days it was a real collective effort to get the school going with parents pitching in financially and volunteering to hold school assemblies, and events like Chahrchanbehsouri, Norouz and other celebrations. Mrs Taheri, her family and the staff have done a wonderful job.
PS: if it wasn’t for her efforts, the parents and SOAS the British examination boards would have dropped Persian O’Level and Advanced Level secondary school qualifications altogether
