A coalition of Iranian human rights NGOs including Centre for Defenders of Human Rights, Centre for Human Rights in Iran, Impact Iran, Iran Human Rights Documentation Centre, Justice for Iran, and the Siamak Pourzand Foundation, has provided the Government of Germany with compelling evidence that Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, the former Head of the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran between 1999 and 2009 who is currently in the city of Hannover for medical treatment, is responsible for crimes against humanity and must therefore be arrested based on Germany’s obligations under international law to exercise universal jurisdiction over international crimes in order to eradicate impunity.
