Siamak does not deserve to be in jail, period. One, because he is innocent. Two, because doing business in Iran is not a crime. Three, even if he's responsible for his own actions, ultimately the Islamic Republic is the guilty party for yet again using people for its own ugly ends.
Siamak is a good friend of mine. I have no doubt about his professional integrity and love for Iran. His arrest, and now his father's too, is nothing but an attept by the IRGC to reassert or show off its power after the nuclear deal. They let four Iranian-Americans go - now it's time for harassing new ones and using them as human bargaining chips.
Many of you have and will critize Siamak for doing business in Iran, which obviously involves dealing with the government. A very ruthless and corrupt government. But there are literally millions of Iranians who work and do business every day, only to make a living and serve their country. Serving their country by helping foreign companies do business in Iran and do trade and invest in various industries.
One side of the argument is that Siamak and those like him have profited from dealing with a terrible regime and if they get caught in the web of politics, they can't complain. The other argument is that he and others are helping people improve their lives by facilitating trade and investment, while also trying to save a narrow bridge between Iran and the West.
I only hope his critics outside Iran realize that Siamak is not the enemy.
To get a sense of the pathological level of delusional "thinking", intellectual dishonesty, and moral cowardice of our Ann-Ghollabi brothers and sisters, read this:

Ok lets skip the bowl, they probably didn't grease the right people! I am sure if they do it now, they will be released immeadetly and the young one can come to U.S and Europe and lecture us about deomcracy and free markets!
JJ, why am I not surprised that these IRI-supporting parasites are friends of yours?
No one is suggesting that Siamak Namazi and now his father are guilty. Or that anyone thinks TRYING to do Business with Iran is a bad thing.
But one thing no one can, or should ever try to deny, is that they are VERY STUPID.
EVERYONE with half a brain, even one operated on by Ben Carson knows, that if you try to steal or eat from the rice bowl of the Bazari Merchant Class, who have been overshadowed by the IRGC Merchant Class, you will lose at very minimum every finger on your grubby little hand.
It is clear just from reading ALL THE DEFENDERS of the Namazis, who seem to constantly mention their deep desire and desperate penchant for wanting to do business in Iran, that they have been most certainly caught trying to "get in on all the action" and make their Jeffersons "movin' on up" move into getting rich quick during the mad rush to rape the EU businessmen who haven't yet figured out that Iran won't actually be able to pay them. They only want the commission due during signing the bogus contract.
Consider the only people doing business in Iran now are the EU. The EU! These are the same nutcases who allowed Greece, Spain, Portugal to use Morgan Stanley to hide their bankrupt debt and get into the EU!
Guess who's doing the exact same thing now? No wonder out of ALL the possible wonderful car manufacturers available, Iran is getting Peogeots!!! YUCK! And not even building them. ASSEMBLING THEM!!!
Then there is the horrible Airbus deal.
No, I'm positive. The Namazis tried to steal a piece of the rotting Iranian corpse, hoping no one would notice, and that they would get away with it before anyone in the IRGC or BAZAR business district noticed.
Well, as usual, they noticed.
No one, but no one, will ever get what the IRGC and BAZAR have silt blood building. Anyone who tries will be dealt with. Regardless of how nice they might have been to notable Iranians in the US once.
One thing that is pure truth about Iran today, is that above all, you cannot, must not be stupid. A lesson some of us don't apparently seem to want to accept or learn.
The sad truth is this: At this point intime, EVERY SINGLE IRANIAN given the chance to scam, rob, and get away with a piece of Iran's fast fading treasure, would do it in the blink of an eye.
Many seem to praise the Namazis as these great people, but apparently if yu track the activities, they are nothing mroe than a modern day Iranian.
Who apparently desperately wants to be a Pirate.
