According to Mikrofonnews Agency (MHA), Naser Shabani, a commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps says “we told Yemenis to attack Saudi’s oil tankers so they did”.

The Lebanese Hezbollah and Ansar al-Wahid Yemen are the depths of our influence, he said on Monday. The comments were covered broadly in Iranian media.

The news was deleted from Fars news agency, a website close to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard after some hours. The comments came as recently Houthi rebels fired missiles at Saudi’s oil tankers off the western coast of Yemen increasing concerns over the security of shipping in the Red Sea.

The attacked cause a halt in all oil shipments of Saud Arabia in Bab al-Mandeb, the world’s biggest oil supplier. The attack was widely condemned and some countries accused Iran of being behind the attack.
