The first all-female highlining team from Iran were seen practising in a mountain range in the village of Vardij, near Tehran in footage from Saturday.

The audacious highliners demonstrated their skills walking hundreds of meters between mountain peaks on a slackline at high altitudes.

"The nature of this sport is so exciting and everybody thinks girls are not for exciting and hard work. We'd like to change their beliefs and say we are doing this and we want to be the best in this field," said Farzaneh Shasavand, one of the athletes.

Reihaneh Armaghani, another team member, said US sanctions on Iran had caused equipment prices to fluctuate, potentially putting their safety at risk, while the coronavirus pandemic has had a positive impact on their team, allowing them to practice full-time and more than double the distances they are able to walk.
