There's always been turmoil in American politics. Watergate is perhaps one of the most notorious eras that reminds us of that.
American politics is like a sine-wave in which each political party rides that wave as in who's on the saddle and who is not.
Times have changed and things have become more bold, so I think the questions to ask this time around are:
- What will the mid-term elections bring? Usually the party not in the White House tajes back at least one of the Chambers of Congress? gaining 23 seats will not be easy.
- Who will be running against Trump in 2020 as that will be the election (or selection) of the century. You can bet that Trump, Evangelicals and Corporate America will be fighting hard to maintain status quo.
While I don’t discount the turmoil in the US politics which can and exist in most if not all other nations, I believe the tribalism has been unpresented in the US. In the past, there were some stuff in politics that was sacred and politicians did not cross, NO MORE. We see this in the confirmation hearing for the heights court, including denying a hearing to yet another judge in the last administration. For an objective observer and independent voter, how much credibility will the Supreme Court have with such confirmation?
Does anyone really believe the investigation in the last election will have any bearing on Republicans or Democrats for that matter with any meaningful consequence?!??!?!?

Democracy in America has increased 10000% ever since president Trump has been elected! MAGA!
The truth is no one knows for sure. I believe Trump is a no factor in the long run. Much of what is practiced as liberal democracy in U.S came about after world war I and II, but that was 80 years ago give and take, and many things have changed since then; economy, culture, demography, society and attitude. How these factors in the long run reshape things who knows.
