Men with miracles don't give in to mullahs easily !!!
Amir has a good point. Shah should've never left. He should have mowed down the communist agitators and terrorists who started the devolution. Iran, and the entire world, would have been better off.
This is my point too, why was he building the army? Because he wanted to defend Iran against Russia ( according to himself ) but instead did not stand against mullahs.
Amir - Shah's army was never atool that he could use to keep himself in power, and that was just one of his many mistakes that led to his demise. You can't have an army of mainly conscripts act as your security force. They would just drop their weapone and walk away, which is exactly what happened. The IR earned this listen very well early on. That's why they quickly estanlished not just one, but two loyal ideological forces for their own protection, the IRGC and the Basij.
AR - I have no doubt that most (not all) of the higher ranking officers were loyal to Shah. But the conscripts (which were the majority of the Iranian army) were conscripts. They had no ideology or loyalty. They weren't going to go on the streets and fight for Shah. Hell, most of them didn't even want to be in the army, let alone be used as a political security force.
BUt the elites were not going to go onto the street and fight for him. They packed up and left.
