The tablecloth seems cut: Due to outstanding salary payments Marc Wilmots no longer wants to continue as coach of the Iranian national team. The association does not seem to be aware of any guilt.

Waiting for his salary: Iran's national coach Marc Wilmots.

Only in May had Wilmots taken over the job in Iran and signed a three-year contract. The plan was that the former Schalke professional leads the selection for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. But after just five games (3/1/1) Wilmots way in the Persian Gulf could end again.

Due to outstanding salary payments, the 50-year-old seems to have lost his appetite for his new challenge. Wilmots calls for a clarifying conversation with the leaders of the Iranian Association (FFI), the news portal Khabar-Online said Wednesday. He does not seem to feel guilty. Because according to FFI, the salary has already been paid, just not arrived.

The problem is that because of the US sanctions, international bank transactions from Iran to foreign countries are not possible. This has always led to difficulties in the past. Some ex-coaches, such as the Portuguese Carlos Queiroz and the Croat Branko Ivankovic, have therefore already filed a complaint with the World Federation FIFA.

Should Wilmots really be serious, the Iranian national team would have to do without their head coach in the explosive World Cup qualifier on 14 November against Iraq.
