It did not deserve the Oscar. It's a second-rate feel-good flick. Django and the Life of Pi were far better.

The film, based on a book by a CIA guy, was really a badly made film besides having a dumb propaganda  scenario (e.g. the police car chase when the plane had already taken off, which had not happened.)

It was also an insult to the brave Canadians and their Iranian friends. Canada had planned and led the whole thing - the USA simply followed the story from afar. The honest re-making of the event, with the participation of the real people, made by the CBC, was much more interesting and exciting than this B movie.

When I heard that it won over "Lincoln" and a few other good films, and when I saw the smiling First Lady praising the winner from the White House, I thought of the role of Jesuits and other missionaries who prepared the "natives"'s mind for the upcoming of colonizing military; although in this case it was the Americans' minds that were targeted.

Argo is Iran's second Oscar, because Iran had more to do with the award than anything Argo's American filmmakers did.

"Argo" is a great movie in terms of the story and thrill, although be hazrat Abbas hagh-e "Lincoln" va "Silver Linings Playbook" bood. If it were not Argo, it would be "Lincoln," and if it were not "Lincoln," it would be "Dark Zero Thirty." I say Ben Affleck did everything right, except the narrative in the beginning of the movie about Dr. Mossadegh, which is a lame repetition of CIA records that Iranians so naively recirculate. For one thing, Dr. Mossadegh was not elected, but appointed. Second, Dr. Mossadegh was fired by the Shah and he refused to step aside.

As for the police cars chasing the airplane, this is Hollywood's artistic license. I let the comment go, because I heard a more absurd comment from a friend saying the Farsi sign on the fence (when the Americans enter the tarmac to board the plane) didn't say it correctly. Fault finding to this level? LOL! 

In fact, it was a nice Farsi translation of the English expression, but in reality in Iran the Arabic words are used (vorood ashkhas motefaregheh mamnoo).

Iranians still suffer from conspiracy theories. Argo was a movie about a part of history of the United States that shows with innovation, intelligence, and cooperation of other nations/nationals they can free some people without starting a war. It is the best of CIA work.

I agree with JJ that Ben Afflect wanted to make Americans happy again. This has nothing to do with Iran, except bunch of Iranian radicals created and caused to exist the darkest spot in the Iranian international affairs and foreign relationships.

The United States government and media has NOT spent the last three decades tirelessly exacting revenge on Iran for what happened. Never. Instead, they have reminded their citizens what it was: an act of violation. Insytead, the Iranian regime has enjoyed the hostage taking for the last three decades and still pride itself as violating human beings. To the point they could not afford not to photoshop First Lady Michelle Obama's naked hands and neck. They never miss an opportunity to embarrass themselves and some of uis Iranians!

I rooted for "Lincoln" and "Sliver Linings Playbook" for hundred artistic and relevancy reasons, none of which had anything to do with Iran. Argo is still a nice thriller for those who enjoy movies for the sake of movies -- that is, movie junkies.

It would be nice Iranians realize hostage taking was wrong. Period. No amount of denial can change it. I wish the movie could open our eyes to condemn the hostage taking. But it is possible the time for this realization has not come. I wait another 30 years.

I acknolwdge the huge contribution of the Canadian government (or whatever their equivalent CIA is, if it even exists). Ben Affleck gave credit to Canada in his Oscar speech. I think this was after President Jimmy Carter reiterated the significant role of the Canadian government in the real events.

Lincoln should have won. It is a masterpiece.
