It's kind of funny Zolf--First, I did not give you any red bilaakhs (I'm responding since this is my post). I don't know who did. Second, it's amusing that you are addressing all of us as NIACIs. Interestingly, when iranian.com changed hands and Said Amin too over, Trita Parsi started blogging there under his real name--although we all know that he was blogging and commenting there under an assumed name(s) before. But as one of his first acts blogging under his real name, he permanently blocked me. :-)))) So, your comment here in rather amusing. 

I liked Obama for reasons other than his relations with the IR. Reasons such as health care, the environment, LGBTQ rights, immigration policy, etc. As I have stated many times before, what Obama did with respect to Iran makes sense for the United States. The U.S. has NOTHING to gain from regime change in Iran and most instability in the Middle East. And if you're waiting for Trump to be your hero and bring Rajavi or Reza Pahlavi to power for you...well, you'll be waiting a long time. He has smart people in that area around him who know the Middle East very well, and will follow Obama's policy toward Iran, people like Mad Dog Mattis. So, don't hold your breath.

PS- look at Faramarz's post from earlier today. Trump just even made it easier for dual ciizens to open bank accounts in Iran!

Seriously though--this whole enthusiasm for Trump by some Iranians, rooted in the assumption that Trump is going to magically topple the IR is just surreal. As if the U.S. government is going to send hundreds of thousands of soldiers to fight, spend trillions of dollars on another clsuterfuck in the Middle East, and have thousands of dead and maimed soldiers just so that a bunch of Iranian exiles can finally have their revenge on the IR, and so that Reza Pahlavi or Maryam Rajavi can become king or lifetime "presidents" in Iran. The whole thing would be funny if it wasn't so naive and strange.

Really, this Iranian mentality that everything is someone else's fault, and that someone else has to come to our rescue, is the reason why we have the Islamic Republic in the first place.

There is little to no chance of a full-scale ground invasion of the IRI by the US, unless the mollahs do something so almost unimaginably provocative that the US administration has no "choice" -- but they haven't done that in the past 38 years and that's unlikely to change now. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of the US responding to some smaller provocation by the IRI with a more limited military strike (like Operation Praying Mantis in the late 1980s), but that by itself isn't going to topple the mollahs. Trump's approval numbers are in the toilet, so that kind of military engagement might even help his popularity somewhat. 

That's a possibility. But I doubt it. First, it's way too soon into Trump's presidency for him to get involved in a serious --new-- military engagement. And he waits a year or so, his approval may go up, so who knows. But more importantly, I think there's a realization that the United States needs Iran's "cooperation," may be even tacit cooperation, to succeed in Iraq and Syria. And the IR knows that too. I think that Mattis has a lot to with that line of thinking. He's not just a military man, he's an intellectual. He knows the area very well, and knows the delicate chess game that has to be played in the ME. That's an interesting article, AO. Thanks for sharing. I seem to remember one of the Trump supporters here was bragging that Mattis was going to drop the H bomb on Qom (or something like that). You know, it was observed more than once during the campaign that Hillary Clinton might have actually been more "hawkish" than Trump.

She's certainly hawkish. She was there when we helped create the mess in Libya (yes, Ghaddafi was bad, but not as bad as a civil war and ISIS) and Syria (same thing with Assad). 

So, why exactly are the Iranian Trump supporters here "jerr-ing" themselves over The Leader? Because he "talks tough"? (Except when it comes to Putin & Russia, of course). 

I think it goes back to the old Middle East mentality on several levels. First, people from that part of the world like strongmen, and Trump pretends to be one (with five draft deferments during the Vietnam War). Second, they still have the other Middle East (or generally a Third World mentality) mentality that everything is America's fault, and conversely, America can fix everything. Third, they don't have a deep understanding of issues. They're not well read. Iranians in Iran, and the older immigrant generation in the U.S. are woefully averse to reading books. They get most of their information from newspapers (or online these days). So, what you get is a person with a knowledge level a mile long and an inch deep. I was watching a movie the other day, and there was a great quote in it. The character said "why don't you put down the newspaper and read a book." Anyway, lastly, I think they're desparate for change in Iran--and they have lost their sense or proportion and measure.

Very similar to the Cuban exile community actually...very similar. I don't remember which movie it was. I keep thinking, but the only movie that I have watched in the past few months has been The Passengers, and I don't think it was in that one. I think it may have been in one of the episodes of Broadchurch, which is a British series that I've been watching on Netflix recently. I'm halfway through season 2. So, it may have been in one of those episodes because I know I heard it recently.

BTW, I think the whole "Nowruz Pirouz" thing is a reflection of Trump's penchant for nationalistic jingoism. I like it though.

Take it for whatis worth, but i think and i see that, after analyzing his message and his words and the context in which they were said, that he really has deep love for the people of foreign nations and although as an American i really do not and should not give a flying flock, but i think there is hope in this for iranians.

They really have a valid reason to hang on to his every single word, and to trust that eventually, in a near future, he will take some decisive action and will overthrow the government. HE will select and put in place people who are close to him and who have earned his trust, Which will be way different from The likes of Bannon, and all the rest of them Nimrods.

So we will just have to see.
