Joobin Bekhrad: 'I don’t really know how I’d classify my musical tastes, and I’ve never really thought about them … I listen to quite an eclectic mix of things, from psychedelia and 60s French pop to Turkish folk and obscure Indian funk, although these days I’m mostly listening to contemporary Persian music. Where Persian music is concerned, I normally favour the classical and folk traditions, although I’ve recently come across some really interesting tracks that have beautifully managed to marry the old with the new. While one or two of the numbers I’ve selected are original compositions, the rest are firmly rooted in the Persian avaz (singing) school, the radif system of classical Persian music, as well as Iranian folk traditions. In this particular order, I present my Persian Fire (for lack of a better name) playlist. Play it loud, or don’t bother at all.' http://www.artdubai.ae/blog/mixtape-persian-fire/
