Does it really matter if he was a construct? As long as some people followed or advanced his methods he  needn't be a real person in order to be influential. We can't simply rewrite history by rejecting Moses or his likes. But we have a choice of living in the past or making the future. 

Good point.  As I've said in the past, my reason for talking about religious figures is not to humiliate or disparage their foolowers.  It's simply personal.

There's a discussion going on in my country about allowing homosexuals and lesbians to marry. But of kors, Church is opposed. Because Bible says this and that because Jesus said this and that, grrrr.

Milliards of men throughout the history would have been relieved if that geezer could run a little faster.

But I was actually referring to my home country, Croatia. Big issue right now. Like most countries that have gone thru civil wars, all of a sudden 85 % believers. As if believing in fairy tales makes you a patriot.

The above is probably one of the reasons why I'm so strongly opposed to any foreign intervention in Iran.

If you want people to identify god with patriotism in a multi-ethnic country where everybody has their own god, go for a foreign intervention. 

I found statements such as “Jesus a fraud” an emotional expression of the truth that we usually evade, that many of us still would rather be fooled by religion than being enlightened by facing the reality.

I tell you a little and limited anecdote. Years ago I did my own research on pros and cons of circumcision and found out there were as much evidence for it as against it. Some references were calling it unnecessary or non-beneficial. Medicine can’t stop at the latter and makes “no harm” a necessary principle . In medicine 50/50 cannot rule. Such statistics does not validate anything but may render it situational and based on the circumstances at most.

Equipped with that little knowledge I went for a hunt of another anecdote. For a while whenever I ran to an Iranian physician in non-formal situations I asked about circumcision. I was offered a list of benefits including some that ordinary folks believe as well. Many of those physicians were successful ones in their filed whose expertise had saved lives and most would not call themselves religious people. I should add that my primary intention was to get a grip of how the educated Iranians make belief on a subject. Interestingly whenever I asked about the peer-reviewed scientific evidence in support of circumcision many were obviously ignoring the fact that there were equal number of valid research and articles deeming amputation unnecessary if not harmful. What struck me the most was that when I squeezed them about their conviction on the matter they seemed clueless and a few in defense resorted to its ancient root in cultures and religions! I noticed that many of them were so convinced about the necessity of circumcision, even before entering medical school, that they never bothered to check the evidence.
