Would it be so bad?
If instead of all these movements by plane
in little metal rooms stacked on top
of an unstable looking and massively polluting ship,
people gathering up in long queues
in tents even, for days in front of borders,
walls, embassies, would it be so bad
if everything was clamped tight,
the borders cast in stone and impassable
except maybe, and a big maybe,
for the exchange of food by little holes
too small for humans and too big for gold?
Too narrow for the promise of arms?
Too wide for money on terms?

Each country to its own devices
like silos in remote farms.
No military interventions,
no UN peacekeeping, no tribunals
or atrocity exhibition trials.
You want change, make it.
Roll up your sleeves, life on the line.
If in every case a corrupt emperor emerges,
well maybe that’s our monkey nature then?
Why should we expect better?
If a people topple the gov’nor
for a counsel of elders, let it be.
Give it time.  If we are meant to evolve
into something less vile,
what better than mini experiments,
a series of Petri dishes placed apart
and hermetically sealed by lids
made of invisible germs?
