One of the more interesting aspects of the killing of Ghasem Soleimani at Baghdad Airport on Thursday was the reaction of the US media to this event. But first let’s set the stage by recognizing that Soleimani deserved to be brought to justice for his crimes against the Iranian people and the region, and his role in supplying the Iraqi insurgency with the Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) resulting in the death of 600 American soldiers and the maiming of thousands more.

From the early hours of the reporting of the drone attack at the airport, reporters and the “experts” from both sides of the aisle were in agreement that the killing was a big deal and Soleimani was an important figure. However, the liberal media saw it as an untimely killing of a major state figure which was due to the huge mistake made by an incompetent US President, with no strategy or consideration for what would happen next. The conservative media saw it as the killing of a major terrorist by a decisive US President who can make big decisions in a quick manner.

Then the reporters and the “experts” from both sides of the aisle agreed that the IR Regime will retaliate against the US and its interests in a big way. So watch out, something big is coming. At times it appeared that both sides were hoping for a big reaction from the IR Regime and they would be disappointed if it did not happen. Again, the liberal side wanted to show that Trump’s poor decision will result in the loss of American lives, and the conservative side wanted to see more military action against Iran.

In order to show the Regime’s reach, a reporter stood in front of Milano Restaurant in Georgetown and reminded the viewers that in 2011 Mansour Arbabsiar was plotting to kill Saudi Ambassador to the US, Adel al-Jubeir and more than 100 by-standers, including Senators and Congressmen by placing a car bomb in front of the restaurant. In reality, Arbabsiar, a total loser with nothing to show for his life, was trying to hire a Mexican gang member in Texas to assassinate al-Jubair, but the Mexican guy became an FBI informant and led him through a trail of making bigger and bigger plans that neither one were able to execute, let alone the assassination itself.

Another reporter went to Westwood, the heart of Tehrangeles and tried to get Iranian-Americans’ opinion about Soleimani. When some people refused to give their names and show their faces, he concluded that Soleimani was even feared and respected 1000’s miles away in the Southern California, let alone in Iran or the Region!

So here’s what happened. Trump was playing golf at his resort in Florida, Mar-a-Lago. He got the news that Soleimani was heading to Baghdad to do another demonstration in front of the US Embassy there and there might be problems. His Mexican caddy told him, “Señor, remember what happened to Jimmy Carter after the embassy take over and to Hilary Clinton after Benghazi? Both lost the elections. You should kill this guy.” Which Trump did.

An hour later, Pompeo learned the news and called Mar-a-Lago.

“You did what?” Pompeo asked. “OK, no problem. I’ll go on CNN and Fox and say that there was an imminent threat to the American lives and 1,000’s of people could’ve died and we had to take quick action!”
