I'm no literary expert. No where near. So I'm not sure which poet in recent Iranian literature resembles the American legend, E E Cummings.
With all his revolutionary breaking with standard structural norms of English poetry, it would be convenient to compare him with Neema Yushij, but then again, Neema's political and metaphorical inclinations compared to the hoplessly romantic poems of E E Cummings makes that comparison immediately void.
Shamloo, Naderpoor, others? Or various elements from each?
It certainly warrants a deeper and more disciplined look.
Here's my loose translation of E E Cummings famous poem" I carry you in my heart" as well as the English version. A personal favorite. The poem is extremely simple in structure and vocabulary, yet a very powerfull and enduring romantic statement. Hope you enjoy it!
I carry your heart with me (I carry it in
my heart)am never without it(anywhere
I go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart)
I'd like to know your opinion on our in-house poet, Majid Nafisi... I find his works remarkably touching...
Thanks for bringing it up. I’ve began reading his poetry. It is indeed pretty impressive on multiple fronts: subtle structure, simple but masterfully weaved words, and most importantly his equally masterful command of the spirit of both English and Farsi languages.
Very beautiful. Well done.
Thank you!
Fantastic! touching! mesmerizing! And I mean your translation. The way every verse ends in "tooii". As if EE Cummings had a mystical relationship with you and wrote this poem for you knowing that one day you'll translate this poem into a masterpiece of poetry in Farsi!
