Amnesty International has launched a campaign urging the Iranian authorities to stop the destruction of a mass grave in the southern city of Ahvaz. The grave site contains the bodies of dozens of prisoners who were killed during a wave of mass extrajudicial executions that took place in August and September 1988. Bulldozing the mass grave will destroy crucial forensic evidence that could be used to bring those responsible for the 1988 executions to justice. The organization is calling on people to join the campaign by sending appeals to the Iranian authorities and promoting the hashtag #MassGraves88 on social media.
