This is a disaster here and now, not "next".
Just for the sake of observation, Cenk is taking side mostly against the Saudis. I would not expect otherwise. The typical intellectuals need to protest their own goverment malice.
But, typical Iranians also take side against the Saudies in this war. As he said, 60% casualties are due to the Saudis. Can anyone deduce the other 40% is IR's?
Dear Mehrdad - I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that the other 40% is Iran's share. Yemen is a complicated place. There's a huge Al-Qaeda and ISIS present there too that contribute to the casualties. Just a week or so ago ISIS claimed responsibility for two huge car bombs in Adeb, which is under Saudi control.
Also, Iran has a very limited role in Yemen. First, it's hard for it to get any major weapon supplies to Yemen due to the Saudi blockade. It's weapon supply contribution--if any--is mainly small arms, which pale in comparison to what Saudi is bringing in for the other side. Second, the Houthis aren't exacctly Shiites. In fact, if you look at their sect, they are much closer to Sunnis that they are to the Iranian version of Shiism. So, this whole things about Iran helping Shiites in Yemen is based on a false premise. In sum, is (or has) Iran helped the Houthis? Yes. Is that help large enough to account for major casualty figures? I don't think so.
K. Let's play it differently. Let's see if Iran didn't mind those Houthis as part of their expansionist ambition in the ME. I hear the Iranian manipulation precipitated the Saudis intervention, culminating in air strikes and more casualties. A can agree with your 40% account.
I'm not saying Iran is blameless. But Saudis are just as big a terrorist supporting pieces of s**t as the IR is.
Agreed.
So where is Fred and compnay advocating "Sanctions works, U.S senate get to it" on this?
