PandoMonthly: Bijan Sabet explains why Boston, despite many advantages, didn't become the next Silicon Valley.

Forbes: Bijan Sabet works out of Boston but beat most all Silicon Valley investors to one of the biggest exits of 2013: Twitter. Sabet got Spark Capital into Twitter as early as 2008 and reloaded a couple more times, holding a board seat until 2011. At the November IPO Spark was sitting on 32.4 million shares that, if held, are currently worth $1.6 billion. Sabet also got Spark into Tumblr (acquired by Yahoo in 2013) and Foursquare. Sabet invested in Twitter in its second round and was on its board for 3.5 years (although he is no longer). Sabet is also active personally on social media, including on Twitter (35,000 followers), Foursquare and Tumblr. He "lives and breathes the space," says Tumblr's David Karp, who also credits Sabet with giving him guidance before Tumblr was even a company. Sabet also led the Series A in social gaming company OMGPOP (acquired by Zynga in 2012 for $180 million). Other current companies: Stack Exchange, Runkeeper, Sincerely, Lift and Boxee. Sabet got his start at Apple and Integrated Systems and later WebTV (now MSN TV).
