Wow! He is an opposition figure this time?

He may be a*hole and opportunist but in a bizarre way I think he contributed more to the protest by bashing the supreme leader openly  inside Iran.

When Ahmadi was president, oil was selling at $120/barrel, prices were kept artificially low, dollar-to-Rial exchange rate was about 1/3 of what it is today. Banks were promising 20% return on your money and Maskan-e-Mehr was supposedly building apartments for thousands of people and people were receiving subsidies. So he was able to deceive people masterfully.

Today, we know that all of that was a big fraud, but some people look back at Ahmadi as someone who stood up for them. One could argue that he was a prelude to Trump, a charlatan who deceived the poor folks with empty promises.
