In the days before President Hassan Rouhani's re-election victory in Iran this weekend, a video of one of his old speeches circulated on social media. Speaking at Iran's parliament, Rouhani says dissidents against the new regime should be publicly hanged during Friday prayers as a message.

And one thing about that old video of that old speech... it's all about "the revolution", and not the regime... Please, get your facts straight... His remarks reflect the revolutionary atmosphere at that specific time, which made it legitimate and popular... Remember; then Bazargan was still the prime minister, and virtually there was no IRI regime in place as yet...

After Iran student protests, July 1999 he, as secretary of Supreme National Security Council, stated in a pro-government rally that "At dusk yesterday we received a decisive revolutionary order to crush mercilessly and monumentally any move of these opportunist elements wherever it may occur. From today our people shall witness how in the arena our law enforcement force . . . shall deal with these opportunists and riotous elements, if they simply dare to show their faces." and led the crackdown.

Iranian Student Protests of July 1999 (Also known as 18th of Tir and Kuye Daneshgah Disaster (Persian: فاجعه کوی دانشگاه‎‎) in Iran) (7–13 July) were, before the 2009 Iranian election protests, the most widespread and violent public protests to occur in Iran since the early years of the Iranian Revolution.

The protests began on 8 July with peaceful demonstrations in Tehran against the closure of the reformist newspaper, Salam. Following the demonstrations, a student dormitory was raided by riot police that night during which a student was killed. The raid sparked six days of demonstrations and rioting throughout the country, during which at least three other people were killed and more than 200 injured.

In the aftermath of these incidents, more than seventy students disappeared. In addition to an estimated 1,200–1,400 detainees, the "whereabouts and condition" of five students named by Human Rights Watch who are believed to be detained by Iranian authorities remain unknown." Wikipedia

No, I haven't forgotten... and perhaps, only perhaps I know a lot more... and maybe, only maybe that's one of the reasons I never rooted for him. Never... Now... Back to that clip which has nothing to do with the IRI/V.F regime, as we know today...
