Haven't you ever received faxes or text messages from Nigerians asking you for your bank account information, so they can deposit millions of dollars into your account? The money they're unable to get out of the country. Before fax machines and internet they used to send letters. Many people lost lots of money. 

The first one I saw was more than three decades ago. An American I knew received one from a Nigerian general and he was very excited about it. He got pissed off when two other American friends and I laughed at him.

I've received several text messages over the years.
