Amini’s is a familiar yarn of exile, assimilation and success. Born in Iran, he emigrated to England with his family at eleven (he was born in 1966). A fan of gloomy atmospheres and dark romance in 1996 he wrote the screenplay for none-other than Michael Winterbottom’s “Jude,” (budget: $7MM, gross: $405K) starring Christopher Eccleston and Kate Winslet, which earned him a Satellite Award (this award is given by the Los Angeles-based International Press Academy).
