Last week, Dr. Holakouee dedicated two days of his radio program entirely to the Iranian supporters of the US Presidential candidate, Donald Trump. But he did something very clever. On the 1st day, he asked the callers to only talk positive about Trump and why they want to vote for him, and no Hillary bashing! On the 2nd day, they could let loose and rip into Hillary. But then again, the rule was no talk of Bernie Sanders, Trump or comparisons.

I believe that what the good doctor was trying to do was to get the folks to really think about why they are supporting Trump so they could better formulate their reasons. And since in today’s toxic atmosphere, people are drawn to Trump based on a combination of slogans with no realistic plans behind them, and a genuine dislike of Hillary and the Clintons, that seemed like a worthwhile exercise.

Many Iranians called from the US, Europe and Iran. And since the US immigration, economy or racial issues has nothing to do with the Iranians who don’t live in the US, I limit my observations to what they said about Trump’s views about Iran and the Iran-related matters.

A high percentage of the Iranian-Americans who support Trump believe that, “since the Democrats and Jimmy Carter brought us Khomeini and the Islamic Republic, then a Republican like Trump will undoubtedly cause a regime change in Iran and restore the good-ole’ days.” However, there were Iranians who believed that since Trump wants to cut the military spending and reduce NATO’s footprint and mind his own business that will translate into no war or aggression against Iran.

In other words, Iranians believe that Trump will do both; a violent regime change and a peaceful co-existence with Iran and the Islamic regime.

Iranian callers liked the idea that Trump will work with Putin and Assad alongside Sepah and Hezbollah to defeat ISIS. However, Trump has stated that he doesn’t like the coalition that is fighting ISIS in Mosul, Iraq, and he believes that the end result will be Sepah and its Shia cronies’ dominance in Iraq.  He has also stated that he will shoot “out of the water” Sepah’s speed boats that once in a while cross paths with the US Navy in the Persian Gulf.

In other words, Trump will work with Sepah in Syria against ISIS, but not in Mosul, and will shoot Sepah’s boats in the Persian Gulf.

Trump has stated that he will tear up the Nuclear Deal and will force a new and better one, implying that he will impose harsher sanctions to achieve a better deal. The callers however, thought that because of Trump’s positive attitude towards Putin and Putin’s good relationship with the IR Regime, there will be a positive environment for US-Iran economic cooperation.

In other words, Trump will impose harsh sanctions while with the assistance of Putin will help Iran’s economy.

So you see, this is what you get when you send a bunch of half-backed slogans to an agitated audience that wants change but doesn’t quite know what and how to achieve it. And have we seen this movie before?

Yes, 37 years ago. We didn’t like the guy who was in charge and wanted him to leave, which he did. Then we didn’t want the guy he appointed who wanted to reform the system. So we forced him out and blindly followed the guy in black turban who made all kinds of promises without any plans or substance. And that’s where we are 37 years later.

On the positive side though, it is the Americans that will vote on Tuesday, and not the Iranians. That’s why the guy with the fuzzy orange hair will not get 98% of the votes!
