Interesting aritlce:

I agree with you that all nuclear weapons must be eliminated. But I don't think most Iranians want the country to have them in its arsenal. In the absense of a scientific survey, I could be wrong. But my feeling/guess is that most are opposed to it.
Mr. J, your point is understood. But it looks like that we are suffering from some kind of nuclear multiple personality disorder. On one hand we say we are against the nuclear weapons but on the other hand instead of condemning any action by any nation towards acquiring/maintaining nuclear weapons, we ask the question and argue why should Israel or U.S have it and we don’t? and we want to have like they do.This happens every time Iran and nuclear weapons are mentioned in a same sentence. The sad thing about it is that the question comes from some of our educated folks. Don't they realize that having nuclear weapons is neither deterrent to war nor sign of power, case and point Pakistan and N. Korea. Unfortunately our psyche equates nuclear weapon capability with "security, prestige" and perhaps "progress". As you correctly asked in your survey comment, did the countries which have it gained anything by having it? and countries which don't it have lost anything as reasult?
I agree with JJ, NOT all Iranians like the idea of having the bomb.
Khar I do not know where you got this idea from.
In fact if Iranians could see the future they definitely disagree having it.
For us having the bomb means;
1- Our politicians become more dangerous
2- People will have less choice.
3- Sanctions will continue.
4- Our enemies will have more reasons to make life difficult for Iranians.
5- There is more possibility we continue having dictatorial governments.
5- Politicians less likely give up their posts.
Amirkabear4 u, I said most not ALL, but large numbers do believe we should have it or at least it’s useful to have. Your comment below says it all:
"In fact if Iranians could see the future they definitely disagree having it."
So you do agree that Iranian people have this misguided grandiose idea about the nuclear Iran, not only in Iran but folk who have lived outside Iran having the same delusion and hypocrisy using Israel, U.S and others to justify nuclear Iran. As an example has any Iranian groups or public figures in Iran or outside Iran ever condemned the Idea of nuclear Iran? If there was any they only condemn it from the perspective of Islamic Republic having it!
dear khar: Obtaining nuclear weapon will not solve any of the structural economic ills that has plagued the Iranian people. In fact, after going nuclear, Sanctions will not be lifted but it will also increase the prospect of war exponentially given the regime's hubris behavior in injecting itself into conflicts that it has no business. Regime's only security lies in economic security of all Iranians and that requires a halt to all thieving and pocketing of the oil revenues.
Dear Firedup that’s my sentiments exactly. I also take it one step beyond current events and sactions and that is; somehow this subject has been planted in average Iranian psyche that going nuclear is progress and "Haq e Mosalam e mast" which is nothing but delusion. It will solve NOTHING for Iran and Iranians it just completes the vicious cycle of misery, case and point Pakistan and N. Korea.

I am sorry I meant MOST.
But those who do like the idea do NOT see the future as they should. It was Sat morning and I did not explain properly. They do NOT see the trouble it will have for us.
However a lot of them, meaning most of them, will not agree to it.
