Sunday was a real treat. Three friends and I were on a balcony overlooking the main square in Pisac, near Cusco in southern Peru, watching different dance groups perform in their amazing, colorful costumes. They were celebrating "Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen" - known in the English-speaking world as "Our Lady of Mount Carmel". Watching them said nothing about the religious significance of the event. It was all music and dance and the bright colors under the sun. Just one of many excuses to have a good time.
